A couple years ago, while finding my way on Twitter, I came across a precious woman who always had encouraging words for anyone she came across. Over the years we’ve Tweeted and commented on each other’s blogs and though we don’t speak every day, Val is one of those people that I know would come to bat for me if I needed her. She supports her fellow writers fiercely and I love her for that. She always has a smile and God love her, she’s adorable.
So when I heard she was filling spaces for a blog tour?? Of course I had to jump in. Wouldn’t have missed it.
So! Without further adieu, meet Valerie Haight 🙂
Thank you Charissa, for letting me hang out with you today! I’m rocking and rolling excited to be here and talking about my first release!! I’ve got a full belly from Thanksgiving and a full plate from Happenstance! But it’s an awesome privilege to have AND December’s right around the corner! That means my debut novella is almost here and I can’t wait to tell everyone about it.
Happenstance will be available in e-book form through Turquoise Morning Press on December 13, 2012.
Merry Christmas to me! I wrote this story based on a corporate setting using some of the relationship conflict I witness on a day-to-day basis. I’m an administrative assistant (gopher) in a corporate setting so I get to see a lot of Peyton Place happenings. I file them in my scheming brain for future novels but today, let’s talk Happenstance!
Taryn Ballard is happily married and a newly appointed analyst for a prestigious shipping company. Her career upsurges in record time but she’s about to discover the real price of corporate life. While on yet another business trip, Taryn suffers a brutal attack by a carjacker. Her husband isn’t there, but her co-worker Devin is.
Taryn must rise above disaster to save her marriage. But is she ready to let go of the man who saved her life? In a single moment, Happenstance changes everything.
This story was so much fun to write because I could really let loose and play havoc on both Devin and Wade. I also put poor Taryn through the ringer! Yes, I’m awful. I merged my favorite two genre -suspense and romance-and came up with a story that will let the reader experience pain, joy, laughter and a little fright! Here’s a snippet to give you the feel of the book.
“Devin, it’s Taryn. You were right. The execs want me to meet them for dinner
and I feel really foolish because I have a GPS and a connect-the-dot map from the
concierge and I’m still lost.”
Devin laughed. “Not a problem. Where are you?”
Taryn took a second to locate the green street sign. “At the corner of First and
Third at a tiny, ancient-looking convenience store.”
“Oh, I know the one. You’re right next to us. I could probably see you from
the tower window. Okay, which restaurant are you looking for?”
Taryn gabbed the hand-drawn map. “Caminas.”
“I know where it is. Actually, it might be faster by freeway.”
“Of course it would. I just came from—”
An unexpected rush of damp, hot air hit her and Taryn turned, confused
to see her door open wide. She sucked in a quick breath and saw too late the arm
reaching for her. Terror gripped her as she zeroed in on the gun in her face.
I had so much fun with this story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! You can
purchase Happenstance here on December 13th!

out in June!
See? She’s awesome. And I had a few questions for Val.
1) How long did it take you to finish Happenstance and what was your process to get it pubbed? Happenstance flew into existence. I had Taryn’s educational background and corporate angst mapped out before I ever put pencil to paper so the basics of the story came together quickly. Edits were a much different story. 😀
My process to get it pubbed went almost the same way. I was strolling around the net and happened upon my publisher’s site (Turquoise Morning Press). I noticed their signature lines and became interested when After Happily Ever caught my eye. The main characters had to be married and the conflict had to come after they’d said, “I do.” I am married, I KNOW conflict, lol. So, I scoped out the submission guidelines, took a deep breath, and started writing! When my story was complete, I queried it and they were interested! I signed a contract and about 6 months later, I was smack dab in the middle of revisions and edits. That was about a year ago. Yesterday, I recieved my ARC. Today, I’m on a blog tour!!
2) What’s been the hardest part of your writing journey? Finding time to fit it all in. It’s difficult for a working mother to be a good writer. I was content writing happily, submitting and scheming. Now I’m deep in edits, contracts and marketing. And I couldn’t be happier! This is what I set out for and I’m finally reaching my goals! It feels wonderful no matter how difficult.
3) What can we expect from you in the future? I will be published in a wedding anthology in June by TMP. My short story is titled MAGNOLIA BRIDES.
Romance on a Louisiana plantation leaves Grandma Candi feeling thirty years younger, Preacher Bob in need of smelling salt and Jorrie wondering if her wedding will even commence!
The ghost of Magnolia Mound Plantation has answers to Jorrie’s questions, but can she take the advice of a woman dead for centuries?
Much thanks to Val for including me in her very first blog tour!
